A female doctor at the Provincial Civil Hospital in Quetta (the capital of Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province) was critically injured on Saturday after a hospital employee allegedly doused her with acid, burning approximately 70 per cent of her body including her face, chest, and legs. The suspect fled the hospital following the attack but was killed in a shootout with police after officers tracked him to a bus station as he attempted to leave the city. Balochistan's Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti condemned the attack and directed health authorities to provide the best available care for the victim, who is being airlifted to Karachi for specialist treatment.
