Moosdorf, a professional cellist with longstanding ties to the Kremlin who was previously stripped of his own foreign policy spokesman role over his Russia connections, alleged that Frohnmaier's positions — including praising US strikes on Tehran as "surgical" even as a girls' school was bombed and 160 people killed — were "cynical and detached from reality." Party leaders Alice Weidel and Tino Chrupalla said the disciplinary action was prompted less by the substance of the criticism than by the manner of its delivery, with Weidel adding that the episode reflects deeper tensions within the AfD over whether to align itself more closely with Donald Trump's United States or Vladimir Putin's Russia.
