Singapore's government has ordered YouTube, Facebook, and X to disable access to 14 social media posts that attacked the country's Indian community and sought to stir racial division, authorities announced on Saturday. The posts, including videos falsely claiming Singapore was being "overrun by Indians," likely originated from a China-based platform before spreading across other sites, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). Singapore (a city-state of roughly six million people, around 75% of Chinese descent, with significant Malay and Indian minorities) has strict racial harmony laws, and officials said the content likely breaches the Penal Code's provisions against inciting racial enmity — an offence carrying up to three years in prison. Second Minister for Home Affairs Edwin Tong said there is currently no evidence of a coordinated foreign government campaign, but stressed that the government would not tolerate narratives designed to divide communities, "especially when propagated by foreigners."
