American indie-pop musician D4vd (legal name David Anthony Burke), 21, appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom on Monday and pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, whose dismembered remains were found in September in a Tesla registered to his Texas address. Prosecutors charged Burke with three aggravated counts — including murder "for financial gain" and killing a witness to a separate sexual-misconduct investigation — and said the death penalty remains a possible sentence. Burke's defence attorneys stated they would "vigorously defend David's innocence," insisting the evidence would show he was not responsible for Rivas Hernandez's death.
