Livestock markets across Morocco, including a large gathering in Aïn Aouda near the capital Rabat, are seeing strong turnout as families shop for sheep and goats ahead of Eid al-Adha (the annual Islamic festival during which Muslims sacrifice an animal to commemorate the Prophet Ibrahim's devotion to God). The return follows last year's market cancellation, with officials noting that Morocco's national herd has grown from 23 million to 41 million animals, easing dependence on imports and restoring the availability of local breeds. However, affordability remains a concern for many families, as rising feed costs have kept prices high — with some rams fetching up to 750 euros.
