Paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) launched a new offensive on Thursday, 30 April, targeting several towns in Sudan's Blue Nile state (a southeastern region bordering Ethiopia), including the state capital Damazin and the town of Sali. The Sudanese regular army claims to have repelled the assault with heavy RSF losses, sharing footage on social media of abandoned and damaged RSF vehicles. The escalation deepens an already severe humanitarian crisis: following an RSF takeover of the towns of Kurmuk and Kissan in March, nearly 100,000 displaced people are now sheltering in Damazin without adequate food, water, or medicine, and the Sudanese doctors' network has warned of an imminent catastrophe as the rainy season approaches.
