Argentina's government has included in its draft 2027 budget a proposal to finance the acquisition of three conventional submarines and two multi-mission frigates for the country's navy, at a combined cost of US$3.5 billion. The plan, put forward by President Javier Milei's administration, allocates US$2.3 billion for the submarines and US$1.2 billion for the frigates, to be financed through public credit operations with a minimum repayment period of three years. The initiative forms part of a broader military modernisation drive that also encompasses infrastructure upgrades linked to Argentina's recently acquired F-16 fighter jets, and reflects the government's stated goal of ensuring long-term predictability in defence procurement and maintenance.
