Meta is running paid influencer campaigns in countries including India, Indonesia, and Canada to promote its Teen Accounts feature, as governments around the world consider banning social media for children under 16. According to research group Tech Transparency Project (a Washington-based organisation that tracks technology industry practices), Meta is enlisting celebrity parents and so-called "momfluencers" to pitch the accounts — which offer screen-time limits and parental supervision — as a sufficient alternative to outright bans. The strategy comes as Meta faces mounting legal and regulatory pressure in the United States, where it recently settled a major child safety lawsuit and agreed to make protective defaults standard for teenagers, while Australia, Brazil, and Indonesia have already enacted under-16 social media bans that could shut Meta off from a key growth demographic.
