Motorola's Indian arm has sued Google, Meta, X, and their associated platforms — including YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and Threads — over more than 360 user posts that allegedly portray its devices as unsafe, seeking both removal of the content and a block on future similar posts. Rather than filing standard takedown requests, the company named the platforms as co-defendants, a move that digital rights advocates warn could pressure platforms to remove critical content preemptively to avoid legal liability. An Indian court issued a temporary injunction in April ordering removal of the identified posts, and the case also includes a "John Doe" provision allowing action against unidentified future creators — a tool previously used in piracy cases — which experts say creates a chilling effect across the entire content ecosystem before any individual is even named.
