Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned to New Delhi on 21 May 2026 after a week-long tour of the United Arab Emirates, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Italy, during which he signed agreements spanning defence, energy, critical minerals, and emerging technologies. Key outcomes included Abu Dhabi pledging $5 billion in investments and signing pacts on strategic petroleum reserves and LPG supply, while the Netherlands and Sweden each agreed to elevate ties with India to a Strategic Partnership — with the Netherlands focusing on semiconductors, green hydrogen, and AI. Italy went a step further, upgrading its relationship with India to a Special Strategic Partnership, and Modi also received Norway's highest civilian honour during the first visit by an Indian prime minister to that country in 43 years.
