Israelis vote in less than a month in an election that could end Benjamin Netanyahu's long tenure, but polls point to another fragmented Knesset (parliament) in which neither his bloc nor the opposition reaches the 61 seats needed to govern. A recent Channel 13 poll put anti-Netanyahu Jewish parties at 52 seats and his bloc at 51, with ex-army chief Gadi Eisenkot's Yashar party narrowly ahead of Likud; Eisenkot has ruled out partnering with Arab-led parties, which could win a pivotal 12 seats. The vote matters because anger over the 7 October 2023 Hamas attack, rising food prices, ultra-Orthodox military conscription disputes and falling public trust are reshaping loyalties in a country still fighting on several fronts.
