Hafidh Ameir Hassan, husband of Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, died on Monday while receiving treatment for a heart condition at a hospital in Zanzibar (a semiautonomous archipelago off Tanzania's coast). Vice President Deogratius Ndejembi confirmed the death and said arrangements were underway for burial in Zanzibar, the couple's ancestral home. Hassan had been Tanzania's first gentleman since 2021, when his wife became the country's first female president following the death of her predecessor, John Magufuli.
