A court in The Hague is set to deliver its verdict against a man from Ede (a town in the central Netherlands) accused of involvement in the killing of an estimated 3,000 Tutsi civilians at the Byiza stadium in southern Rwanda in April 1994. The case centres on atrocities committed during the Rwandan genocide, in which an estimated 800,000 mostly Tutsi people were killed over roughly 100 days. Prosecutors have called for a life sentence, making the ruling one of the most significant war crimes proceedings to take place on Dutch soil.
