A forensic psychiatrist testifying for the defence in the US murder trial of Lindsay Clancy told jurors that the Massachusetts mother was experiencing a "command hallucination" when she strangled her three young children — Cora, five, Dawson, three, and eight-month-old Callan — with fitness bands in January 2023. Dr Phillip Resnick argued that Clancy, now 36, was in the grip of postpartum psychosis (a rare but severe mental illness that can emerge shortly after childbirth) and likely could not distinguish right from wrong, believing she was sparing her children a life without her. Prosecutors contend the killings were calculated and intentional; the case is expected to go to the jury early next week after nearly a month of testimony, with Clancy — paralysed after jumping from a window following the deaths — attending proceedings in a wheelchair.
