Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi on Tuesday, with Sybiha telling Araghchi that the strike was unintentional and that Ukraine had no desire to escalate tensions — an account Araghchi confirmed, though he maintained that "any attack on our citizens or interests is unacceptable" and that "there must be restitution for losses." Sybiha used the call to demand that Iran halt its support for Russia's war effort, writing on X that he "emphasised the necessity to refrain from any escalatory steps, as well as to end any support for Russia's war against Ukraine." Iran's Araghchi separately accused Israel of attempting to provoke the strike in order to drag Iran into a wider confrontation. The Kremlin condemned the attack, with spokesman Dmitry Peskov calling it "international terrorism" and declaring that "an attack on an Iranian ship is an attack on Iran."
