South Korea's Financial Supervisory Service (FSS), the country's top financial regulator, has called on bank holding companies to ensure fairness and transparency in how they appoint chief executives. FSS Governor Lee Chan-jin met with the heads of eight major banking groups on Wednesday to press for stronger governance reforms and tighter internal controls. The push comes amid a sharp rise in financial misconduct, with banking sector incidents totalling 171 billion won (approximately $126 million) in the first seven months of 2024, nearly triple the figure recorded for all of 2023.
