Mobile PASMO (a Japanese transit and mobile payment application) suffered a major service disruption on the morning of July 1st, leaving users unable to top up their accounts via the app. The operator announced service was restored approximately two and a half hours later, though some users continued to experience difficulties adding funds. Separately, mobile Suica — a rival transit payment app operated by JR East (Japan's largest railway operator) — also suspended services including in-app charging and season ticket purchases, with the company rushing to restore full functionality.
