Basketball legend LeBron James has officially joined the Philadelphia 76ers (one of the NBA's oldest franchises, last winning a championship in 1983) on a two-year, $8 million veteran's minimum contract, the team confirmed Monday. James, who turns 42 in December and had previously said he was "done" after his 23rd season with the Los Angeles Lakers, reversed course after strongly considering retirement, saying he believes he can help deliver a championship to Philadelphia alongside All-Star teammates Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Jaylen Brown. The signing reunites James with team president Mike Gansey, a fellow Ohio basketball figure he has known since their high school days, and adds the NBA's all-time leading scorer and four-time champion to a Sixers squad that has not advanced past the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs since 2001.
