Senegal is preparing to honour former president Abdoulaye Wade (who led the country from 2000 to 2012 and founded its first opposition party in 1974) as he turns 100 on 29 May 2026. Due to the celebrations coinciding with Tabaski (the Muslim feast of Eid al-Adha), the official national tribute has been rescheduled to 4–5 June, and will include an official ceremony, public concerts, and an academic symposium on Wade's political legacy. The events will be held under the patronage of current president Bassirou Diomaye Faye, whose 2024 election campaign received support from Wade's Senegalese Democratic Party.
