The national broadcasters of Slovenia, Ireland, and Spain have confirmed they will not air this year's Eurovision Song Contest, held in Vienna from 12 to 16 May, in protest at the European Broadcasting Union's (EBU) decision to allow Israel to compete amid its ongoing war in Gaza. Slovenia's public broadcaster RTV went a step further, announcing it will air a series of Palestinian documentaries and feature films under the title "Voices of Palestine" in place of the competition. The boycotts mark the first time Spain — a participant since 1961 — will not televise the contest, and highlight the growing tension between Eurovision's "United by Music" motto and the geopolitical pressures surrounding the 70th anniversary edition.
