A special court applying the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), a law targeting organised criminal networks, has rejected a bail application from Aakash Srivastav, one of the accused in the killing of former Maharashtra state minister Baba Siddique, who was shot dead in Mumbai in October 2024. The court found that evidence including call records, witness statements, and confessional statements from co-accused prima facie linked Srivastav to the broader conspiracy, ruling that his absence from the actual shooting was insufficient to meet MCOCA's strict bail threshold. On the same day, India's Supreme Court separately dismissed a challenge by another co-accused, Akhilendra Pratap Sureshsingh, against a Bombay High Court order that had also denied him bail, with the bench finding no grounds to intervene.
