The head of GCHQ (Britain's signals intelligence and cybersecurity agency), Anne Keast-Butler, warned on Wednesday that the UK and its allies are running out of time to stay ahead in the global race for artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies. Speaking at Bletchley Park — the historic home of Britain's World War Two codebreakers — she described the world as being in a "new era of radical uncertainty" and said the risk of miscalculation is "as high as I've ever seen it." Keast-Butler also revealed that new intelligence indicates nearly half a million Russian soldiers have been killed in Ukraine since 2022, and warned that Moscow is escalating hybrid attacks against Britain and Europe, targeting everything from undersea cables to cyberspace.
