Canadian airline WestJet has agreed to pay C$4.5m (roughly £2.4m) to settle a decade-long class action lawsuit brought by over 3,400 female flight attendants who alleged the company failed to protect them from sexual harassment and assault. A British Columbia judge approved the settlement on Monday, though it excludes key demands such as mandatory anti-harassment training for pilots and any admission of wrongdoing by WestJet. The case was initiated in 2016 by former flight attendant Mandalena Lewis, who alleged she was sexually assaulted by a pilot during a layover in Hawaii in 2010 and that WestJet continued to employ him despite her complaints — an outcome Lewis called deeply disappointing, saying: "We didn't get justice here."
