The lawyer and supporters of jailed Moroccan feminist activist Ibtissame Lachgar — also known as Betty — have raised urgent alarm over her rapidly declining health while she serves a 30-month sentence in Morocco. Lachgar was convicted of offending Islam after wearing a T-shirt bearing the word "Allah" alongside the phrase "is lesbian." A bone cancer survivor with a prosthetic arm, she has reportedly sustained a fracture in prison and now requires surgery, with her lawyer Ghizlane Mamouni warning of life-threatening complications and calling for a royal pardon on humanitarian grounds.
