India and the African Union have jointly postponed the 2026 India-Africa Forum Summit (a high-level diplomatic gathering held periodically to strengthen ties between India and African nations), citing an "evolving health situation" following a deadly Ebola outbreak in Central Africa. The outbreak, caused by the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola for which no approved vaccine or treatment exists, has already claimed nearly 140 suspected lives and caused hundreds of probable infections in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, where conflict involving the Rwanda-backed AFC/M23 militia is hampering emergency response efforts. The World Health Organization has rated the outbreak as a high regional risk, and no new date for the summit has yet been announced.
