Mexican authorities have rescued eight people held against their will at a hidden clinic on a farm in Tecalitlán, a municipality in the western state of Jalisco roughly 160 kilometres from Guadalajara, operated by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), one of Mexico's most powerful criminal organisations. The victims, some of whom were on crutches, had been forcibly recruited by the cartel and kept at the site to recover from injuries sustained during criminal activities, according to state prosecutors, who also seized drugs, weapons and ammunition and arrested six suspected guards. The discovery underscores Mexico's deepening crisis of enforced disappearances — an estimated 134,000 people are missing nationwide, with Jalisco among the worst-affected states — and follows a separate 2025 find of a suspected CJNG training camp in the same region where human remains were uncovered.
