Two-time Tour de France champion Jonas Vingegaard (Denmark) launched a decisive solo attack on the Blockhaus (a legendary mountain finish in Italy's Apennines) during stage seven of the Giro d'Italia, winning with Austria's Felix Gall finishing 16 seconds behind in second place. The Visma team leader's display of strength leaves overall leader Afonso Eulálio (Portugal, Bahrain-Victorious) with a reduced advantage of just over three minutes at the top of the general classification, after the pink jersey wearer lost nearly three minutes to Vingegaard on the climb. The result marks the first major shake-up of this year's race, with Enric Mas and Egan Bernal among the significant losers, while Dutchman Thymen Arensman finished tenth and remains within reach of the overall podium positions.
