Venezuela's interim leader Delcy Rodríguez has pledged to deliver 4,000 housing units to earthquake survivors by December, with plans to raise that figure to 10,000 by next year. The commitment follows twin earthquakes that struck northern Venezuela on 24 June, killing 5,278 people and injuring nearly 17,000, with more than 20,000 displaced residents currently sheltering in makeshift camps in the coastal state of La Guaira. The scale of need remains severe: authorities acknowledge a requirement of around 25,000 homes, over 850 buildings were damaged and 190 collapsed entirely, while the UN estimates the number of missing persons could reach 50,000.
