The US State Department has approved the potential sale of four UH-60L Black Hawk helicopters to Argentina for an estimated $140 million, notifying Congress of the deal on 10 September. The package, to be supplied by Sikorsky (a Lockheed Martin subsidiary), includes engines, firefighting equipment, radios, spare parts and training support, with the aircraft to be delivered refurbished in staggered shipments. Washington cited border security, counter-crime operations and disaster response as the intended uses, describing Argentina — a major non-NATO ally — as a stabilising force in South America, and said the sale would not upset the regional military balance.
