Spanish health authorities have confirmed a second hantavirus infection linked to the Dutch cruise ship Hondius, with a Spanish crew member now being transferred to an isolation unit at a military hospital in Madrid. The World Health Organization (WHO) reported on Sunday that the outbreak has so far resulted in 12 confirmed infections and three deaths, with cases also confirmed among Dutch crew members who disembarked in Tenerife and were repatriated to the Netherlands. The Hondius docked in Rotterdam last week and is currently undergoing a full decontamination, while authorities in both Spain and the Netherlands say the risk of wider public spread remains very low.
