The Indian Army has signed an agreement with the United States to acquire FGM-148 Javelin anti-tank guided missile systems, the US Embassy in New Delhi announced on Friday, though the financial value of the deal was not disclosed. The Javelin, jointly manufactured by Lockheed Martin and RTX and described by its makers as "the world's premier shoulder-fired anti-armour system", uses a fire-and-forget mechanism and strikes armoured vehicles from above, where their armour is thinnest. The deal deepens an already growing defence partnership between the two countries, which signed a 10-year defence framework agreement in October — a relationship that has remained resilient despite broader trade tensions stemming from US tariffs on Indian goods.
