Oscar-winning British director Asif Kapadia will helm the concluding chapter of 'Up', the long-running ITV documentary series that has followed the same group of British individuals since childhood, with the final episode set to air later this year. The series, which began in 1964 and revisited its subjects every seven years, was voted the most influential UK television programme of the last five decades in 2024; its longtime director Michael Apted, who originated the project, died in 2021. Kapadia, known for acclaimed documentaries about Amy Winehouse, Ayrton Senna, and Diego Maradona, called the appointment an 'incredible honour', describing the original series as 'the ultimate portrait of human life' and saying the final instalment will serve as a tribute to Apted's legacy.
