Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti and Nigerian-British singer Sade Adu have been selected as 2026 inductees into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (the US institution honouring artists who have shaped popular music). Fela, who died in 1997, will be recognised in the Early Influence category, making him the first African solo artist to receive the distinction, while Adu, 67, will enter in the Performance category at a ceremony on 14 November at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles. The announcement was made on American Idol by Ryan Seacrest and Lionel Richie, with other inductees including Oasis, Iron Maiden, Wu-Tang Clan, Phil Collins and Queen Latifah.
