Pakistan's territorial waters have been removed from the Lloyd's Market Association's Joint War Committee (JWC) Listed Areas — a risk classification that had subjected Pakistani shipping to additional war-risk insurance premiums since 2001, when the country was included following the US-led war on terror. The removal, confirmed by Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, followed months of government-led negotiations with Lloyd's officials, during which Pakistan presented technical evidence of improved maritime security conditions. The decision is expected to lower shipping costs, boost the competitiveness of Pakistani exports, and make key ports including Karachi, Port Qasim, and Gwadar more attractive to international shipping lines and investors.
