Pakistan's Jamaat-i-Islami (JI), a major Islamist political party, has launched a multi-city protest march toward the capital Islamabad, demanding the government abolish a petroleum levy that adds over 100 rupees per litre to fuel costs. Party chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman departed from Karachi by train, addressing rallies along the route through Hyderabad and Sukkur, and warned that if the government fails to act, the movement could escalate into a push to oust it entirely. A separate protest by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, demanding the release of jailed former prime minister Imran Khan, is also scheduled in Islamabad on 27 September, adding to growing political pressure on the government.
