A 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck at 10:56am local time on Monday, sending tremors across Islamabad and the neighbouring city of Rawalpindi in northern Pakistan. Pakistan's Meteorological Department said the epicentre was located near the Tajikistan–Xinjiang border region at a depth of 128 kilometres. The quake is the latest in a series of recent tremors to affect the area — Pakistan sits at the intersection of three major tectonic plates, making it one of the world's more seismically active countries.
