The Netherlands' newly established National Agency for Disruptive Innovation (NADI), a Dutch equivalent of the US government's famed DARPA research body, has announced a partnership with Germany's SPRIND agency to accelerate the design of AI chips. The two agencies will jointly commit €40 million over 20 months to small research teams using AI to speed up chip development for both training and running AI models — a process that currently takes years. The collaboration draws on the Netherlands' strength in semiconductor equipment, particularly the ecosystem around chip machinery giant ASML, and aims to reduce European dependence on US expertise in a strategically critical technology sector.
