Pakistan has been ranked the most improved country in narrowing the mobile ownership gender gap among women, according to the GSMA Mobile Gender Gap Report 2026 (an annual study by the global mobile industry body GSMA tracking digital inclusion across low- and middle-income countries). The ownership gap fell from 37% to 27% in a single year, while the mobile internet gender gap dropped even more sharply — from 25% to just 8% — representing one of the fastest such improvements recorded globally. The report attributed the gains to coordinated efforts between government, regulators, and the telecoms industry, though experts cautioned that sustained progress will depend on tackling affordability, digital literacy, and social barriers that still limit women's independent access to mobile technology.
