An independent commission has found Manchester City guilty of all charges of breaching Premier League financial rules between the 2009-10 and 2017-18 seasons, plus three of four charges of failing to cooperate with the inquiry. The league said City used "sham" commercial deals to inflate revenue and understate costs by more than £900 million; the club denies wrongdoing and has appealed in a private process, with no clarity yet on sanctions, which could in theory range up to heavy points deductions or expulsion. The case is the biggest scandal in the history of the world's richest club league, and rivals such as Liverpool, City's next opponent at Anfield, are reportedly weighing claims over lost titles and revenue.
