Pakistan's ambassador to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, told the UN Security Council on Monday that Islamabad's demand from the Afghan Taliban — that they take "verifiable and non-reversible action" against terrorist groups operating from Afghan soil — remains unmet nearly four years after the Taliban's return to power in Kabul. Ahmad specifically cited groups including the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the Balochistan Liberation Army, Islamic State-Khorasan, and the East Turkestan Islamic Movement as operating with impunity inside Afghanistan, directly fuelling a surge in attacks on Pakistani soil. While warning that the window for course correction was narrowing, the envoy urged the Taliban to cooperate with the international community, saying it remained in the best interest of the Afghan people themselves.
