The UK's House of Lords addressed Argentina's renewed pressure over the Falkland Islands (a British Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic, sovereignty over which has long been disputed between the UK and Argentina) on Monday, after President Javier Milei made a speech last week containing economic threats against the islands and their right to develop resources. Baroness Winterton, Under Secretary of State for the Indo-Pacific, told peers that Argentina's measures would not alter Britain's "unwavering commitment" to the islands, noting that such threats had failed to halt the community's economic development in the past. The UK also signalled confidence in US support, stating that Washington, as its closest ally, was in no doubt about Britain's position on Falklands self-determination.
