Southwark Council (a local authority in south London) has repossessed a two-bedroom social housing flat previously held by Fatima Jabbe-Bio, the wife of Sierra Leone's President Julius Maada Bio, following a 12-month investigation into tenancy fraud. Jabbe-Bio had been listed on the tenancy since 2007, but council rules require such properties to serve as a tenant's principal residence — a condition neighbours and investigators said was not met, as she has spent much of her time at the presidential lodge in Freetown since her husband's election in 2018. The flat will now be allocated to a family on Southwark's waiting list, which currently stands at more than 18,000 households amid acute pressure on social housing across London.
