The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Election Commission — the body overseeing votes in the Pakistan-administered portion of the disputed Kashmir region — has announced that general elections will be held on July 27, with voting running from 8am to 5pm. The commission confirmed that the electoral roll now covers more than 3.8 million registered voters across 45 constituencies, an increase of roughly 584,000 since the last elections in July 2021. Chief Election Commissioner Justice Ghulam Mustafa Mughal pledged that polling would be free, fair, and conducted under the supervision of the military and civil armed forces, though he cautioned that ongoing protests by the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee could prompt adjustments to the schedule if unrest continues.
