The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has proposed rules to block imports of advanced drones equipped with swarming capabilities and high-resolution infrared sensors, targeting mainly Chinese manufacturers such as DJI and Autel Robotics. The announcement, made on Tuesday, reflects growing national security concerns in Washington over the potential for foreign-made surveillance technology to be exploited by hostile states. Exemptions for drone components produced outside China have been extended until January 2028, suggesting the measures are aimed specifically at isolating Chinese suppliers rather than disrupting domestic supply chains more broadly.
