Nvidia is in discussions to provide roughly $250 billion in financing guarantees to help OpenAI lease a massive 10-gigawatt data centre being developed by SoftBank's energy subsidiary in southern Ohio, the Wall Street Journal has reported. The power for the project is controlled by the U.S. government and funded separately by Japan under a recent trade agreement, with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick playing a key role in determining access. OpenAI is said to be the frontrunner for the site, though Anthropic, Microsoft, and Google have also held talks with Lutnick in recent weeks.
