Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL), the country's largest fixed-line and broadband operator, has returned to profitability for the first time in over four years, posting a net profit of Rs3.1 billion in the first quarter of 2026 after a net loss of Rs4 billion in the same period last year. The turnaround was driven largely by the consolidation of Telenor Pakistan into the PTCL Group, which pushed revenues up 58 percent year-on-year and caused operating profit to surge by 564 percent. The group's mobile subsidiary Ufone is also set to launch 5G services in May following the granting of a commercial licence by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, though company officials cautioned that the ongoing regional conflict could push up interest rates and fuel costs in the coming quarter.
