A recent unprovoked attack on a French nun in occupied East Jerusalem has drawn fresh attention to what Christian communities in the region describe as a deepening pattern of intolerance. According to the Rossing Center for Education and Dialogue, 113 attacks on individuals and church property were recorded in Israel and East Jerusalem last year alone, including 61 physical assaults targeting clergy, while low-level incidents of spitting, insults, and vandalism have become near-daily occurrences for the roughly 180,000 Christians in Israel and 10,000 in East Jerusalem — the majority of them Palestinian. Analysts link the trend to Israel's shift toward far-right nationalism under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, warning that the erosion of trust among Christian communities, combined with growing international awareness, risks alienating younger evangelical Christians abroad who have traditionally been among Israel's strongest supporters.
