Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has pledged to secure land ownership rights and 18th Constitutional Amendment protections for residents of Gilgit-Baltistan (a semi-autonomous mountainous region in Pakistan's north bordering China and India), during a campaign rally in the regional capital Gilgit ahead of elections scheduled for June 7. Bilawal cited legislation already passed by the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly that converts around 28,000 square miles of government land into common land, and called for its implementation, warning that a rival party victory could undo the measure. The PPP leader also promised digital connectivity improvements — including potential Starlink satellite internet access — and public-private partnership projects in health and housing if his party secures a majority.
