Sudanese archaeologists are now attempting to assess and rebuild what remains after the RSF (Rapid Support Forces), a paramilitary group engaged in an ongoing civil war with Sudan's army, used the building as a military base. The destruction represents a catastrophic loss for the region's cultural heritage, erasing irreplaceable records of ancient Nubian and Sudanese history.
