Pakistani Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb is visiting Washington for three days of talks with American officials focused on trade, tariffs, and investment as the two countries continue negotiations toward a broader bilateral economic partnership. Aurangzeb is scheduled to meet with the Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR), the US Export-Import Bank, the Development Finance Corporation, and the IMF, with discussions expected to cover market access, infrastructure financing, and a potential bilateral trade agreement. The visit comes as Pakistan seeks to lock in favourable tariff terms following months of negotiations triggered by President Donald Trump's sweeping April 2025 tariffs; a Pakistani delegation earlier secured a reduction in the proposed levy on Pakistani exports from 29 per cent to 19 per cent, though the tariff landscape remains fluid after a US Supreme Court ruling struck down the original legal basis for the duties.
